Stemmetre i Åmot

Stemmetre i Åmot is a participatory sound installation built around a simple democratic gesture: anyone can contribute a wish, and every wish is treated as worthy of being heard. Collected as handwritten notes, the wishes are transformed into short vocal phrases and released into a shared listening space where no single voice is privileged as “the main message.” Instead, meaning emerges through coexistence—many small statements forming a living public chorus.

The installation is situated within a 360° ambisonic soundscape recorded in Rena sentrum, so the work carries the acoustic texture of the town itself—its presence, movement, and everyday atmosphere. That spatial recording is played back around the tree through four speakers, surrounding the listener and grounding the voices in a recognizable social context.

As the wishes circulate, overlap, and fade, the piece stages a different kind of public sphere: not debate or consensus, but layered presence—where private hopes become audible, held in common, and reintroduced into the town’s own sonic environment.
